Lady Attempts to Save Baby Hedgehog that Is Not Actually a Hedgehog at All

A very kindhearted British woman recently discovered what she believed to be a baby hedgehog in distress and carefully took it in to try to provide it with some help.  She initially placed the little thing in a box that was lined with newspaper and provided it with a container of food to try to get it to eat.  She provided it with a nice, warm place to stay overnight until she could take it to a proper veterinarian for care.

The next day, the good Samaritan took the baby hedgehog to the Lower Moss Nature Reserve and Wildlife Hospital located in Cheshire.

Janet Kotze, a manager at the wildlife hospital, was worried when she was informed of the situation by the good Samaritan because she realized immediately that it was rather early in the season for baby hedgehogs.

Kotze took the box containing the hedgehog to the hospital’s triage area and opened the box so she could assess the hedgehog’s condition and provide it with whatever medical help it required.

Once Kotze had opened the box, she picked up the hedgehog and quickly discovered that it was in fact not a hedgehog but rather the fluffy bobble off the top of a hat.

When Kotze returned with the box and its contents to the good Samaritan, Kotze informed the lady that what she had found was really a piece from a hat the just closely resembled a baby hedgehog.  The good Samaritan at first thought it was a joke, but Kotze assured her that what had been believed to be a hedgehog was truly from a hat.  The good Samaritan took the box and its contents and returned home – a bit embarrassed at her mistake.

Kotze noted that although the extremely light weight of the hat bobble should have been a major giveaway that it was not a hedgehog, she did make it a point to note how very kindhearted she felt the good Samaritan was to try to provide assistance to what she thought was an animal in distress.

It is far better to act out of kindness at all times and risk occasionally being incorrect than to ignore those in need or refuse to help others.
